Eri Maldives unveils ocean awareness programme celebrating marine life and conservation

Eri Maldives, located in the North Malé Atoll, is placing marine conservation at the heart of its guest experience this summer, with a dedicated calendar of ocean-focused programming running from 1 June through to mid-July. Rather than treating ocean awareness as a seasonal initiative, the resort has embedded marine stewardship into its everyday operations, offering guests a series of guided encounters and educational activations aligned with key global environmental observances.

A month of ocean awareness

Across June and July, the resort’s marine team is delivering a structured programme designed to coincide with internationally recognised ocean awareness days, each featuring tailored experiences that combine exploration with education.
On Reef Awareness Day (1 June), guests are invited to take part in the Reef Guardians Experience, which includes morning and afternoon snorkelling safaris across some of the atoll’s most vibrant coral sites. These excursions are supported by conservation briefings focusing on coral ecosystems and marine life behaviour. The day concludes with a complimentary Marine Life Quiz hosted at the Sip&Dip bar in the evening.
World Oceans Day (8 June) continues the momentum with guided snorkelling safaris and wider marine ecosystem explorations, reinforcing the resort’s ongoing commitment to ocean education and immersive discovery throughout the month.
On World Sea Turtle Day (16 June), the programme shifts focus to one of the ocean’s most iconic species. The “Turtley Awesome” afternoon experience features a Turtle Search Snorkel session from 14:15 to 16:30, beginning with an educational briefing on turtle behaviour, ecology and conservation, offering guests both insight and direct observation opportunities.
Shark Awareness Day (14 July) is marked with “Beyond the Myth”, a programme aimed at reshaping perceptions of sharks through education and experience. Guests can take part in a complimentary Shark Trivia session at Sip&Dip (20:30–21:30), alongside optional after-dark experiences including a Night Snorkel and Night Dive with sharks (18:00–20:00, reservations required and subject to additional cost).
The programme concludes with PADI Women’s Dive Day from 18 July, featuring a women-only breathwork and free dive introduction session in the morning (09:00–10:30, chargeable), followed by a sunset gathering at Sip&Dip (18:00–19:30, complimentary), designed to encourage confidence-building and community among women divers and beginners.

Meet the resident turtle community

Beyond its scheduled awareness days, Eri Maldives is also home to a resident population of 14 individually identified sea turtles, recorded and monitored by the resort’s dive team. Each turtle is recognised through distinctive physical markers, including shell formations, flipper structure and unique carapace patterns.
Among them is Miss Torti, identifiable by her saw-like shell edges and split rear scutes, and Hank, distinguished by his underdeveloped right hind flipper. Farfalle is noted for her speckled shell pattern, which resembles a constellation map when observed closely.
A more recent addition to the registry is Otto, the first recorded green sea turtle sighting at the resort, marking a notable moment in the ongoing documentation of local reef biodiversity.
Several of the turtles have been named by guests who encountered them during snorkelling excursions, and the resort continues to encourage visitor participation. Guests who spot an undocumented turtle are invited to contribute to its naming, further reinforcing a sense of shared stewardship between the resort and its visitors.
