MMPRC Kicks off Maldives Roadshow in Seoul and Busan in South Korea
Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives), has hosted a
successful roadshow in Seoul, South Korea on 21st June 2023. This roadshow aimed to
connect with potential operators and agents in Seoul, further strengthening trade
relationships and promoting the Maldives as a top destination for South Korean travellers. A
second roadshow will be held on June 23, 2023, in Busan.
A total of 11 prominent companies from the Maldivian tourism industry are taking part in
the roadshow, showcasing their offerings to the South Korean market. These companies
include Angsana Velavaru; LUX* South Ari Atoll; Madifushi Private Island; Maldivian Charter
Club; Oaga Art Resort Maldives; Robinson Club Maldives Pvt Ltd; RUI Atoll and RIU Palace
Maldives; The Cocoon Collection; The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort; and Inner
Maldives. Their participation further emphasises the commitment of the Maldives tourism
industry to cater to the preferences and demands of South Korean travellers.
MMPRC conducted a social media contest during the roadshow in Seoul and the winners
won Maldives-themed merchandise. In addition, a raffle was held and 02 lucky winners won
a free holiday in the Maldives. A raffle will also be held during the roadshow in Busan for
two more lucky winners. The raffle was sponsored by Robinson Maldives, Riu Hotels &
Resorts, Westin Hotels & Resorts and Cocoon Maldives. A Maldivian corner was curated with
Maldivian snacks and a display of lacquer works for the attendees to learn about the
Maldivian culture.
The primary objectives of the roadshow is to maintain South Korea as one of the key source
markets for the Maldives and to foster stronger partnerships with potential travel agents and industry partners. The event aligns with our market strategies to promote individual
products and provide unique experiences to South Korean travellers.
South Korea has historically been a significant source market for the Maldives. In 2022, it
was the 9th largest market with 35,948 arrivals (2.1% share). Prior to the pandemic, South
Korea was the 11th largest source market in 2019. The Maldives continues to see strong
interest from South Korean tourists, with 13,335 arrivals recorded as of May 13, 2023.
