MMPRC showcases the latest tourism initiatives to key international media at ITB China 2024 ‘Maldives Media Meet’

Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/ Visit Maldives) has concluded the exclusive ‘Maldives Media Meet’ press conference held on the sidelines of ITB China 2024 on 27th May 2024 at Meeting Hub A, Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, Shanghai. The press conference was attended by key Chinese and international media professionals. 
The Maldives Media Meet was led by Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr Zihuny Rasheed, with the Maldives Minister of Tourism, Mr Ibrahim Faisal, as a VIP Speaker. 
In his opening remarks, DMD Zihuny provided a comprehensive overview of our key destination marketing strategies targeting the Chinese market. He elaborated on how the Maldives aligns perfectly with the growing trends of sustainable tourism, innovative experiences, and industry diversification during the Destination Presentation that followed his opening statement. 
The Maldives’ Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, gave his remarks following DMD Zihuny, stating that “China has always been a valued partner for the Maldives, and I am proud to say that China remains our number one market for tourism.” He continued to speak about the importance of the Chinese market to the Maldives, the diplomatic ties between the two nations, and stressed the importance of further strengthening connectivity through additional direct flights from various regions in China. 
A highly anticipated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony took place between MMPRC and Weixin Pay. The MOU was signed by Deputy Managing Director of MMPRC, Mr Zihuny Rasheed on behalf of Visit Maldives and Weixin Pay's Country Manager, Singapore and Regional Director, Southeast Asia, WeChat Pay, Mr Etienne Ng, on behalf of
the company. This MOU signifies a strategic partnership aimed at the vast Chinese audience through Weixin Pay's extensive digital payment network. This collaboration focuses on increasing tourist arrivals through joint marketing initiatives and campaigns. With Weixin Pay's reach and influence, we aim to further solidify the Maldives' position as a leading destination for Chinese travellers seeking a seamless travel experience. 
Prior to concluding the press conference, the speakers engaged in a Q&A session with attendees, addressing inquiries and engaging with media and travel professionals.
