Secret Paradise Maldives Becomes a Climate Literate Company

Building on our Commitment to Climate Action in Tourism
Local Tour Company, Secret Paradise Maldives, announced that they are now officially a climate literate company, following the successful completion of a Climate Literacy Workshop with carbon experts, ECOLLECTIVE, certified by Carbon Literacy Project. The immersive workshop delved deeper than just facts and figures, the sessions encouraged open discussion and accountability, helping the team to not only understand the issues, but also commit to tangible steps that will make a difference to the company's operations and carbon footprint.
"Climate change isn’t something that’s happening elsewhere, it’s here, and it’s now," says UB Waseem, Tour Leader at Secret Paradise Maldives. "These changes aren’t just something we talk about among ourselves, our guests are noticing them too. During island tours and visits to mangroves and seagrass meadows, conversations are increasingly turning to climate impact and carbon capture, and it’s clear there’s a growing interest in understanding what can be done'.
For a company already rooted in sustainable tourism, the training reinforced the importance of collective responsibility and showed how even small, everyday actions, when taken consistently, can lead to lasting impact. “What made this training so impactful was its emphasis on action,” Ruth Franklin, Co-Founder of Secret Paradise Maldives explains. “It wasn’t just about understanding the problem, it was about becoming part of the solution.”
This milestone is a continuation of the company's sustainability journey, aligning with their 2023 commitment as a signatory of the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism.
