Island Home Wall Mural & The Earth Lab Production By Six Senses Laamu
ISLAND HOME WALL MURAL
In May, the Six Senses Laamu Energy Conservation Committee encouraged hosts to take pride and care for the island by painting a giant wall mural, celebrating the island and the initiatives in place to care for it.
A competition was run to design the art-work, with the guidelines of being a simple design, so that anyone can come participate to make it a reality, and on the theme of ‘Our island Home’. The winning design was co-developed by Jasmine (Manta Trust Laamu Project Manager) and Umar (Tropic Surf Base Leader). Their design features the four elements, earth, fire, wind and water, celebrating initiatives and activities on and around the island.
In total, 27 hosts came to draw and color in the image to create the final product!
EARTH LAB PRODUCTION
Six Senses Laamu’s Earth Lab showcases the resort’s efforts to reduce waste and produce local products, as well as offering guests with the opportunity to get involved through workshops and activities.
The on-island production has been off to a great start this year. By the end of May 2021, the Earth Lab team has produced 11,300 kg of compost for the gardens. They have harvested 2,554 coconuts, 1,518 kg of herbs and greens from the Organic Garden and 1,399 eggs from the Kukulhu (chicken) Village. In the first five months of the year, the Earth Lab team has also provided educational activities for 406 participants including guests and hosts. Some of the most popular activities includes gardening practices, coconut oil making and learning how to make home-made soap.
