Visit Maldives CEO Participates in PATA Annual General Meeting 2026 as Board Member
Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree participated in the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2026, held on 12 May 2026 in Gyeongju, Republic of Korea, as part of the PATA Annual Summit 2026.
Mr Shiuree attended the meeting in his capacity as a Board Member of PATA, a role he has held since August 2025, representing the Maldives within one of the region’s leading tourism organisations.
The AGM brought together PATA members, tourism leaders, and industry stakeholders from across the Asia-Pacific region to review the association’s activities, discuss strategic priorities, and address emerging developments impacting global tourism. Discussions during the meeting focused on sustainable tourism growth, industry collaboration, policy development, innovation, and strengthening partnerships among member destinations and organisations.
Held under the theme “Navigating Towards a Resilient Future,” the wider PATA Annual Summit 2026 convened over 550 delegates from more than 35 destinations, including representatives from government bodies, tourism boards, airlines, hospitality groups, and international organisations.
The summit programme included governance meetings, policy discussions, industry and education roundtables, and conference sessions addressing key issues shaping the future of tourism in the Asia-Pacific region. Topics included destination resilience, sustainable tourism governance, digital transformation, and evolving destination marketing strategies.
Mr. Shiuree noted that the discussions provided critical insight into the evolving priorities of the regional tourism industry, particularly as destinations navigate the complex ripple effects of the Middle East crisis. At a time where global stability directly dictates travel patterns, the focus on resilience, sustainability, and shifting traveler expectations felt more urgent than ever. “Platforms such as PATA are vital for ensuring that, despite regional tensions, destinations remain aligned with broader industry shifts. The exchanges during the AGM provided the essential perspectives needed to refine how Visit Maldives approaches destination marketing and strategic partnerships, ensuring our long-term tourism planning remains robust in the face of international uncertainty.”
VMC’s participation at the AGM reflects the Maldives’ continued engagement with regional tourism leadership platforms and its commitment to contributing to collaborative discussions on the future development of the tourism industry across Asia and the Pacific.
