Visit Maldives Storytellers’ Conference 2023, held from 30th May to 02nd June, will introduce you to the incredibly talented artisans and craftsmanship of the Maldivian isles. We are featuring pop-up stalls from a handful of talented Maldivian artists. These stalls will feature arts, crafts and traditional treasures inspired by the Sunny Side of Life. Discover the rich tapestry of art in the Maldives, and maybe even take home an authentic souvenir?

Experience the timeless artistry of ‘Liyelaa Jehun’ (lacquer work), an art tradition deeply rooted in Maldivian culture. Though the origins of liyelaa jehun is unknown, the art style shares similarities with the intertwining patterns of Indonesia, China, and other Asian countries. Pop-up stalls at Visit Maldives Storytellers’ Conference will feature lacquer products from artisans that have carried on the tradition from their forefathers for hundreds of years. Buying crafts directly from local producers helps preserve the traditional craftspersonship and heritage. It also spreads awareness about local Maldivian art when you take these pieces back home.
