Maldives has recorded the highest number of daily tourist arrivals since the reopening of borders
On 1st November 2020, Maldives recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals on a single-day with 1,582 entries. “Thanks and congratulations to travel and tourism industry partners and related authorities. Today we had a new record of daily arrivals since border opening with 1,582 tourists,” Honorable Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom stated in a tweet. He also added that the Maldives had surpassed the forecast for October, which was 21,000 arrivals.
Maldives reopened its borders to international tourists on 15th July, with strict safety measures to ensure the protection of tourists and staff. Resorts and liveaboards resumed operations on this day. However, guesthouses (outside the greater Male’ region) resumed operations on 15th October with the same regulations in place, to provide tourists with a safe and joyous experience in the small island nation.
The tourism industry along with partners is working together to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges that came along with it. In this regard, several relationships have been established with other countries along with the resumption of several airline operations to Maldives, the most recent being GoAir. GoAir recommenced flights between Maldives and India under the travel bubble between the two countries. Other airlines include Air India, British Airways, Edelweiss, Emirates, Lufthansa and many more to come.
It is also noteworthy that a number of high-profile celebrities and social media influencers have been traveling to Maldives and documenting their stay on their online and social media platforms. This is equally meaningful in showcasing the Maldives as safe and one of the most preferred tourist destinations to potential travelers.
Looking to the future, the tourism industry seems to be improving gradually. It is expected that with such flight resumptions and developments in place, it will encourage more tourists to visit and on top, deliver a beneficial impact on the industry, as well as the economy, in the approaching days.
