Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation’s (MMPRC/ VisitMaldives) Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Mr Ibrahim Shiuree has stated that the upcoming passenger terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA) will play a key role in realising the Maldives' tourism goals.

Speaking during a video presentation series organized by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), CEO & MD Mr Shiuree emphasised that the new terminal is a critical development that will enhance the country’s capacity to welcome more visitors. “The new terminal will open up many avenues for the economy and tourism,” he said, highlighting its importance in reaching and exceeding previous milestones, including the record of 2 million tourist arrivals achieved last year. He added that the new terminal is expected to offer unique and globally competitive experiences for travelers, further strengthening the Maldives’ reputation as a leading tourist destination.

The new terminal is scheduled to be officially inaugurated on July 26, in celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Maldives’ independence. H.E President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is expected to preside over the inauguration. CEO & MD Mr Shiuree acknowledged the President's active role in accelerating the terminal’s completion, noting that the President has issued numerous directives to MACL in this regard.

Commending the dedication of MACL’s management and staff, CEO & MD Mr Shiuree expressed his gratitude on behalf of MMPRC. “MACL’s commitment has been instrumental in ensuring the delivery of this important national project. Their tireless efforts will be recognized for years to come,” he stated.

Velana International Airport, as the primary gateway for international visitors, plays a vital role in supporting the tourism sector. MMPRC continues to work closely with MACL and other industry partners to enhance the quality and experience of airport services.
