Visit Maldives CEO & MD Ibrahim Shiuree Elected to PATA Executive Board
Chief Executive Officer and Managing
Director of Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), Mr Ibrahim Shiuree, has been
elected to the Executive Board of the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA),
expanding his leadership role within the Association and creating new
opportunities to strengthen the Maldives’ engagement and visibility across the
Asia-Pacific tourism sector.
Mr Shiuree has served on the PATA Board
since August 2025, contributing to governance discussions, strategic forums and
industry dialogue. His election to the Executive Board represents an
advancement from his existing Board role, providing greater involvement in the
strategic direction and governance of the Association and its work across the
region.
As a member of the Executive Board, Mr
Shiuree will contribute to regional tourism priorities, including strengthening
collaboration between destinations, supporting innovation and digital
transformation, and creating opportunities for emerging tourism leaders.
The expanded role also creates direct
value for VMC’s destination marketing mandate by strengthening access to PATA’s
regional network of tourism boards, government agencies, travel businesses and
industry leaders. This provides further opportunities for destination
promotion, collaborative campaigns, industry partnerships, market intelligence
and knowledge-sharing, while increasing the Maldives’ visibility within
discussions shaping tourism across the Asia-Pacific region.
Through closer engagement with PATA’s
network, VMC will also be better positioned to identify emerging market
opportunities, traveller trends and potential partnerships relevant to the
Maldives. These connections can support VMC’s efforts to diversify source
markets, reach new traveller segments and strengthen the destination’s presence
across established and emerging Asia-Pacific markets.
Mr Shiuree’s participation at the
Executive Board level further provides an opportunity to bring the experience
and perspectives of the Maldivian tourism industry into regional dialogue,
while positioning the Maldives to participate more actively in initiatives,
forums and partnerships that can generate greater international exposure for
the destination.
Mr Shiuree was appointed Chief Executive
Officer and Managing Director and Board Director of Visit Maldives Corporation
on 13 June 2024. His election to the PATA Executive Board builds on his
involvement with the Association since joining its Board in 2025.
PATA is a not-for-profit membership
association bringing together tourism organisations, government agencies,
hospitality and travel businesses, academia and other industry stakeholders
across the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 1951, the Association supports
responsible tourism development through advocacy, research, knowledge-sharing
and collaboration among its members.
