Visit Maldives Takes Part In ConnecTALKS

Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Thoyyib Mohamed, took part in the final ConnecTALKS of Connections virtual event hosted by Dr. Mario Hardy, Chief Executive Officer of PATA. Thoyyib Mohamed was joined by Mr Dorji Dhradhul, Director General of Tourism Council of Bhutan, and Mr Jean-Marc Mocellin, Chief Executive Officer of Tahiti Tourisme. The session addressed the current initiatives, challenges and predictions of these prestigious tourism board leaders. 
During the hour-long session, Thoyyib Mohamed provided a brief overview of the Maldives, highlighting the geographical features and extraordinary features such as the white sandy beaches, turquoise blue waters, and the coral reefs teeming with colorful marine life. In addition, the one-island-one-resort concept was briefly discussed, emphasizing on the safety and security provided by the naturally distanced islands in a time when physical distancing is required. The four tourism products; resorts, guesthouses, liveaboards and hotels, were also discussed in the conversation. 
Furthermore, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Maldives and the tourism industry, the marketing strategies initiated by Visit Maldives, and the the rigorous vaccination programme currently being untaken in the Maldives were also discussed 
One of the main points discussed during the session was the Maldives’ mid to long term strategy of catering to a diverse range of travelers and preferences. A brief overview on the history of local island tourism was discussed and the experience of visiting guest houses compared to the resorts were also part of the conversation. In addition, the marketing activities and campaigns initiated by Visit Maldives for the following year on promoting local tourism, guesthouses, and other tourism products were also discussed.  A strong emphasis was placed in the promotion of local tourism, culture and heritage of the Maldives.  Furthermore in the session, the pandemic, resorts under development, and the long term strategy for the Maldives was discussed.
