Visit Maldives to Launch the Maldives Book of Records

Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) will launch the Visit Maldives Book of Records (BOR) on 4 October 2025, as part of National Tourism Day celebrations. The initiative marks the beginning of a nationwide effort to document extraordinary achievements across the Maldives, showcasing the country not only as a world-class holiday destination but also as a stage for sports tourism and unique record-breaking feats.
Through the Book of Records, VMC aims to establish a platform that celebrates exceptional accomplishments in the Maldives, positioning the nation as a hub for sports tourism while offering opportunities for both local and international athletes to attempt records in water- and land-based activities. The launch is also designed to inspire Maldivians to push boundaries and encourage global athletes to set world records in the Maldives.
The launch event will feature a national record attempt in Static Apnea by renowned Maldivian free diver Ismail Nasheed (Issey), embodying the spirit of the Book of Records and inspiring individuals and communities to pursue new milestones. The attempt will be broadcast live on TVM, ensuring nationwide engagement and visibility.
The event will incorporate comprehensive safety measures with medical and diving experts on standby, extensive media coverage by local and international outlets, and symbolic recognition for record-makers through the presentation of certificates and commemorative coins. The Book of Records will continue to grow beyond the launch, documenting future attempts and fostering a culture of innovation and achievement across the nation.
“The Visit Maldives Book of Records is about more than breaking records – it is about breaking barriers,” said Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO & MD of Visit Maldives Corporation. “We want to inspire Maldivians and athletes worldwide to see the Maldives not just as a place of beauty, but as a destination where extraordinary achievements happen. This initiative showcases our commitment to sports tourism, innovation, and creating moments that the world will remember.”
The Book of Records is designed to be an open platform, encouraging both Maldivians and international visitors to attempt and break records in the country. By celebrating achievements on a national level, every record entered into the Book will automatically contribute to the Maldives’ destination promotion, amplifying its global profile and highlighting the nation as a place where remarkable accomplishments take place.
Through this initiative, the Maldives aims to establish itself as a hub for sports tourism and experiential travel, offering opportunities for local and international athletes to set records in water- and land-based activities. The project will not only inspire Maldivians to push new boundaries but also invite tourists to create their own extraordinary experiences — turning achievements into a unique form of destination storytelling.
