Whale Sharks: South Ari Atoll

This is a marine protected area. The individuals found in South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA), have a high site fidelity rate, meaning that the same individuals are often re-sighted in the area. SAMPA has the highest re-sighting rate of any whale shark hotspot in the world. The predominant behaviour exhibited by whale sharks in SAMPA is cruising.
