Finolhu Baa Atoll, Maldives

B. Kanufushi

The name Finolhu means sandbank. The resort actually covers four islands, with its long network of beaches stretching out for around one-and-a-half miles – ensuring you won’t ever get cabin fever on Finolhu. On the main island, the white sand passages are lined by a wealth of tropical greenery so lush that it creates a feeling of having been transported into a botanical garden. There’s never a bad time to experience its beauty, but a walk here at sunrise is especially enchanting. For a desert island adventure, a lazy stroll out along the seemingly never-ending sandbank leads to the Crab Shack, a rustic wooden restaurant reminiscent of a scene from Robinson Crusoe. It’s easy to let your mind wander as you lose yourself in the sensual experience of sipping your first coffee of the day while you listen to the waves gently lapping the shore, fill your nostrils with the fresh sea air, watch the dolphins playing in the water, and sit back to take it all in with the sand between your toes.
