NHGAM concludes successful Southeast Asia Roadshow promoting Maldives in Hong Kong
The National Hotels and Guesthouse Association of Maldives (NHGAM), in collaboration with Visit Maldives and the Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators (MATATO), has successfully concluded the I AM Maldives Southeast Asia Roadshow in one of the most dynamic travel market; Hong Kong on April 13th
The roadshow brought together 20 companies and more than 50 participants in total, representing the full diversity of Maldivian tourism, including guesthouses, resorts, hotels, and travel agencies. Over the course of two events, more than 70 travel trade professionals across Hong Kong participated in B2B networking sessions and presentations, including tour operators, travel agents, and key industry decision-makers.
NHGAM aimed to promote community-led and local island tourism as a key focus across both markets, while showcasing the full spectrum of Maldivian tourism products. Travel trade professionals gained valuable knowledge about authentic local island experiences, sustainable tourism practices, luxury resort offerings, and the diverse range of accommodation and activity options available throughout the Maldives.
Over 20 raffle prizes were awarded, consisting of complimentary holiday packages with stays at a variety of Maldivian guesthouses and resorts, giving winning agents the opportunity to experience the destination firsthand. Industry participants expressed satisfaction with the event's organisation and the valuable business connections established.
Southeast Asia represents significant and growing potential for Maldivian tourism. Greater China, including Hong Kong, recorded 236,877 arrivals, a 19.6 percent increase, cementing its position as the number one source market.
"We meet today at a time of uncertainty in the world. Ongoing conflicts in the Middle East have disrupted travel flows and reshaped source markets; however, the world has not stopped traveling, it has simply started traveling differently. In that shift lies opportunity for destinations like ours. The Asia-Pacific region is at the center of these opportunities " said Abdulla Nasheed, President of NHGAM.
This marks the third successful roadshow under the I AM Maldives brand, following previous initiatives in Georgia and Azerbaijan, and most recently across Central and Eastern Europe. As NHGAM continues to execute an ambitious calendar of international market activities in 2026, the Southeast Asia roadshow reinforces the association's commitment to expanding the Maldives' presence in Asia's most promising travel markets, ensuring that the destination remains front of mind for travel trade partners and travellers across the region.
