Maldives reopened its borders to international tourists on 15th July with the reopening of several resorts and liveaboards. Guesthouses also resumed operations on 15th October. There is no quarantine on arrival but all tourists are required to fill an online health declaration form within 24 hours prior to departure and submit a negative COVID-19 PCR test result, conducted maximum 96 hours prior to departure to Maldives.
Maldives has also introduced the first COVID-19 travel insurance in the country, Allied Inbound, which covers medical charges, isolation facility charges, emergency medical transportation charges and interment charges following a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 during their stay in the country.
The travel industry has been put to a halt due to the current pandemic, but with the reopening of many international borders and resumption of flights between many countries, things are looking up. The industry has become quite innovative in their means of promoting their businesses to attract more customers, and tourists are increasing day by day, while simultaneously keeping them safe.
