Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa will once again welcome some of the world’s most accomplished surfers for the 14th edition of the Surfing Champions Trophy, taking place from 4 to 11 September 2026.

Hosted at the resort’s private island setting, the invitation-only competition will see a distinguished field of surfing talent compete at the renowned Sultans break, just off the shores of Kuda Huraa. The week-long event brings together high-level competition, a celebrated surfing legacy and the distinctive island experience offered by Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa.

The Surfing Champions Trophy stands apart from conventional surfing competitions through its unique three-discipline format, with competitors taking to the waves on single fin, twin fin and thruster boards. The format tests adaptability, technique and style, while celebrating different eras and approaches to surfing.

The Surfing Champions Trophy was first introduced by Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa in 2011, creating an event that brought together some of the sport’s most respected names in an intimate island setting.

Over the years, the resort has hosted an impressive roll call of surfing champions. Mark Occhilupo claimed the inaugural title after winning all three divisions before defeating world longboard champion Josh Constable in the Grand Champions Final. He was followed by Damien Hardman in 2012, Taylor Knox in 2013, Dave “Rasta” Rastovich in 2014 and Shane Dorian in 2015.

Taj Burrow took consecutive titles in 2016 and 2017, followed by Josh Kerr in 2018 and 2019. After the event returned in 2022, Kelly Slater claimed the championship, with Joel Parkinson taking the title in 2023. Burrow returned once again in 2024, securing his third Surfing Champions Trophy title.

The event has also welcomed an exceptional roster of competitors throughout its history, including five-time world champion and Olympic gold medallist Carissa Moore, big-wave pioneer Maya Gabeira, and surfing legends Tom Curren, Rob Machado and Layne Beachley. Other notable names have included Bethany Hamilton, Mikey February, Jeremy Flores and Jadson Andre.

Each edition brings a new combination of competitors, ensuring that the competition remains unpredictable while maintaining the high standard established since its inception.

The competition takes place at Sultans, one of the recognised surf breaks accessible from Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa. The break provides the setting for the three board disciplines, while the resort serves as the island base for competitors, judges and guests throughout the event.

Beyond the competition itself, the Surfing Champions Trophy forms part of the resort’s wider connection with surfing and ocean experiences. Its location provides direct access to the surrounding waters, allowing guests to experience the region’s surf culture alongside the atmosphere of an international sporting event.

The 2026 competitor line-up will be announced in the months ahead, with another collection of renowned surfers expected to gather at Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa for a week of competition on the waves of Sultans.

From 4 to 11 September 2026, the resort will once again provide the setting for one of surfing’s most distinctive invitation-only events, bringing together celebrated names from across generations for the Surfing Champions Trophy.
