My Maldivian Monsoon Adventure

“I just got back from a wonderful holiday in the Maldives, where the monsoon season made the islands even more beautiful."

Dear Diary,
Here I am in the beautiful islands of the Maldives once again, one of my favourite places in the world. Pristine beaches with powdery white sands, crystal-clear waters and endless sunshine - that's the picture that floats around everyone’s head right? Well, that is not the reality this time around. The skies are paved with fluffy grey clouds and the occasional downpour greets me. I think it was just my luck that I came during the monsoon season :’) But this might actually turn out to be a unique adventure, one I’ll be documenting every day with a gazillion shots ⠁꒳⠈

The rainy vibes definitely forced me to make a change of pace! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)ノ
Today, it was pouring heavily when I woke up and instead of rushing out to explore, I found myself curled up with a book on my villa patio, the pitter-patter of raindrops felt strangely calming. The Maldives, it seemed, isn’t just about flawless tans; today feels like it’s all about slowing down and appreciating the quiet moments.
Later, when the rain eased a bit, I decided to go snorkelling. The water was warm and inviting. The underwater visibility was fantastic on the western sides of the island. I got to encounter a hidden world teeming with life, full of colourful surprises!

Dear Diary,
Guess what?! Today, I did something totally epic! (ง ᗒ︿ᗕ)ง Turns out, the monsoon brings amazing swells for surfing! I rented a board and with the wind whipping my hair and the waves churning, I caught some waves I won't soon forget. It was exhilarating and a little nerve-wracking (especially with those crazy currents!), but totally worth it.
I’ve come to realise there’s something special about the monsoon season in the Maldives. I have been experiencing so many new adventures that I won’t otherwise even think about indulging in. I am having a great time and I’m sure these days will be filled with perfect and unique moments that I can look back on. <3

I'm thinking of trying my hand at windsurfing! Apparently, the strong monsoon winds make it the perfect time to ‘catch some serious air’. I’m imagining myself gliding across the turquoise water, feeling the salty spray on my face and the wind in my hair - it sounds like pure exhilaration!
Also, today, I found out about a local activity called "Vaareyaa Themun" which is basically the Maldivian phrase for "playing in the rain."  Can you believe it?  While most people might run for cover, here in the Maldives, they embrace the downpours! It must be because it’s so sunny year-round except for these rain showers Σ(-᷅_-᷄ ๑)
Personally, I have never been put off by a little rain. The rain makes me want to go outside more - splashing around in the warm rain was pretty refreshing after a day on the water.
And as a fellow monsoon visitor, Colin recently put it, “The last thing we were gonna do was let the rain ruin our day.” as we spent the rainy days with fun adventures. It seems that the rainy season holds a unique charm for everyone, not just me.

Swimming in the rain in the pool in my villa – now that's something I can honestly say I've never done before! It felt strangely exciting to swim with the raindrops splashing around me, enough to make me feel poetic!  ヾ(・ω・o)
Wind and water blend,
Mystic beauty all around,
Raindrops kiss my skin
After a refreshing swim, I couldn't resist snapping a few photos. The rain-washed panorama had a particular glamour, the palm trees glistening and the vibrant flowers even more breathtaking. I captured some incredible shots of the storm clouds rolling in over the turquoise water. This monsoon adventure is definitely turning out to be a trip to remember forever (˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶) and these unexpected experiences are making my holiday all the more special.
“Everything looked so much more lush in the rain. The leaves looked greener, the sand felt softer, the place had always been beautiful – but this was the first time it felt magical.”

I just packed my bags for the journey home and I felt a wave of sadness washing over me. My Maldivian monsoon adventure, as I have started calling this holiday, is officially coming to an end :( But as I sit here waiting for my departure, flipping through the countless photos on my camera, I can’t help the smile spreading across my face.
This trip wasn't what I expected, but it was everything I needed. It was a reminder that sometimes the most magical moments come wrapped in rain clouds, and that true beauty can be found in embracing the unexpected. I already can’t wait to come back!
“We visited the Maldives..during monsoon season and it was an adventure!”
